So, friends...it's (almost) official [read: I didn't buy flight tickets yet ;) ]: I'm spending February in the USA/CANADA!

Basically, I'm currently in the following situation: my contract with IBM ended December, 31 and I'm starting my new job (at Fujitsu...yay, competitor!) on April, 1st! However, I have to take be at the CeBit in Hannover March, 5th - 9th! Therefore, I thought to travel around a bit and since I haven't been in the US since 2000, I want to check out the East Coast (I lived 6 months in Newport Beach, CA and know most of the West Coast).

So, I would love to check out some nice cities in the East (mainly around the Philly, NYC, Boston area) and also in Canada (Montreal [oh, how I hate the French language ;)] and Toronto!)...

I have soooo many questions regarding my stay/travel!

- What are Must-Sees in this area/ these cities?
- Any nice record stores that I have to check out?
- Hostels/Hotels that are recommendable?
- What would be the best way to travel to the cities, once I'm there? Greyhound? Train?
- I WANT TYPICAL LOVAL FOOD! Where do I find the best Pizza in NYC? What is a typical dish for Philly/Boston? Where should I eat a Corned Beef/Pastrami Sandwich? I don't think the East Coast is too famous for its BBQ, but any recommendation for restaurants that serve the best brisket, pulled pork, etc? :)

You get where this is going, right? I'm open for tips, recommendations, advices...just anything!!!
Maybe I can even meet one of you guys if you live in this area! :)

Thanks in advance,
Sasan

Hey, that's really cool, and hopefully some folks up North can chime in for the good sites and eats up there.

I just take one exception to the comment on BBQ-- the midwest stuff you refer to, beef with sweet or mustard style sauce is NOT REAL BBQ (it's not bad, just not the real deal). The REAL stuff is what we have here in the South: pork, minced/chopped and vinegar based sauce with ever how much 'heat' (spicy pepper heat) you prefer. Plain or with cole slaw on a sandwich is about as common as PBJ or bologna-cheese in NC where I grew up ;)

Seriously, have a great time! We did Boston a few summers ago, more of a historical vacation, but one of the nicest 'big' cities I've visited (even drove in Boston downtown, no sweat). Hope to live long enough to go back in 2020 for 400 year Celebration in Plymouth.

Yeah, now it's official!

I booked my flights yesterday!

Will leave Germany (Düsseldorf) on February, 03 (sunday next week) at 10:05 and arrive in Philly at 15:55! Stay there until the 7th/8th and head to NYC! Will be there for around a week and then travel towards Boston, probably spend ~3 days (in total) in New Haven & Providence...stay a few days (~5 ) in Boston and catch my flight from Boston to Toronto on February, 23. Will be spending a week in Toronto & Montreal and fly back on March, 2nd!

Pretty unplanned how long I'll stay where and what I will do between my arrival in Philly and the flight to Toronto...but I'm sure it will be exciting as hell! So looking forward! :)

Yooo, what up new haven.

But if you don't want to see anything in providence and just want to get to boston, taking 95 all the way will be painful. I would suggest going 91 to 84 to 90 and going in that way. You'll go up through hartford, then pretty much right on to boston.

Huh, before my trip in early 2013, I haven't passed the Atlantic for ~12 years!

Now I will fly over the great ocean for the third time within 14 months!
I've spent two weeks in September at my sister's place in Vancouver (lovely city when you ignore all the junks). And two days ago I booked a flight to NYC with my girlfriend from April, 13 - 22! So looking forward to the trip! :) Just wanted to share! :)
