Well the break down pretty much works out as follows.

Mahogany - reclaimed (but would cost around £90-£100/$150)
Motor - reclaimed, but will be upgrading it to new Rega motor (£125/$175)
Platter - reclaimed, but will be (probably) replaced with a Rega upgrade (£150/$235)
Feet - £25 but actually going to replace these too so (£75/$125)
Baring - reclaimed, but again going to upgrade to a bronze one w/ruby ball baring (£60/$90)
SME 3009 Tonearm - Cost me £150, but had to strip and rebuild, off ebay they're about £250/$390)
Spirit Bubble - (£8/$12)
Phono plugs - (£10/$15)
On/Off Button - (£10/$15)
Silver cored phono leads (£8/$12 1/4 metre) - (£32/$48)
Gold plated wooden phono plugs - (£14/$21)
Stainless steel plate - £1/$1.50
Stain & Danish Oil - £9/$14

So its cost me about £342 ($538), or £728 ($1150) when upgraded.

The platter and such like came from a Rega Planet TT. But they're apparently rare a rocking horse sh*t so I'll be replacing them and rebuilding that old TT.

Excuse my lack of TT knowledge, but what's so special about a $235 platter?

well its the platter and sub platter really. I could find one of the bog standard ones - plastic sub platters for about £15

which aint that good, being all plastic and prone to damage and warping. Or i could go for the upgrade thats made from stainless steel and brass and made within a tolerance of 2 microns with an acrylic main platter apposed to an mdf one.

acoustic wise does the difference match the jump in price? probably not, but I figured that if ive put so much effort in then it really should get some top notch bits on it :)

Only thing left to really do is install the motor, which I picked up yesterday and find a new stylus for the cartridge. :)
